Elizabeth P. Coughter Completes Mediation Training

MichieHamlett attorney Elizabeth P. Coughter recently completed an International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) training class. The class, entitled “Interest Based Negotiation and Mediation Skills Training for Collaborative Professionals,” was held in early November in Lynchburg, Va.
The training included a number of different modules, including the following:
- Understanding conflict
- Listening skills
- Reflection and responding
- Empathy and assertiveness
Coughter has been practicing law in Charlottesville since 1983 when she began to work for MichieHamlett. Today she focuses her practice on family law matters, including litigated divorce and custody cases. She was originally certified in the collaborative process in 2004. She practices collaborative law in family law cases.
Her past trial work has included a variety of civil matters, including medical negligence cases, contested divorce and custody cases, employment litigation, collegiate honor trial cases, and automobile accident cases.
IACP is the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, an international community of legal, mental health and financial professionals working in concert to create client-centered processes for resolving conflict.
