For answers to these questions and many more, plan to attend the Senior Law Day, A Toolkit for Surviving Life’s Later Challenges, which is presented by the Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association (CABA). This free event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, 2010, 9:30 to 1:30, at Charlottesville City Hall, in council chambers, 605 E. Main St. Lunch will be provided, and all attendees will receive the 2009 Senior Citizens Handbook, which includes valuable information on a variety of topics, such as housing, finances, taxes, health care, legal rights, and planning for the future. Parking is available in the Market and Water Street parking garages.
Speakers include Ned Sledge, public affairs, Social Security Administration; Claire E. Curry, legal director of the Legal Aid Justice Center Civil Advocacy Program; David B. Reid, licensed clinical psychologist; Dr. Timothy Short, chief medical officer, Hospice of the Piedmont; Rev. Suzanne Hilton Smith, chaplain, Martha Jefferson Hospital; and Gordon Walker, CEO, Jefferson Area Board on Aging.
CABA President James P. Cox, III, says, “The bar association is proud to present this senior law day program to our community. We are holding this program in conjunction with Law Day, which is celebrated on May 1. Law Day is meant to reflect on the role of law in the foundation of the country and to recognize its importance for society. We know that as the demographics of our community change, more and more questions on issues of aging will arise. We are pleased to provide this event for our community to help answer these questions.”
The Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association is a not for profit professional association established to preserve and improve the legal profession and its services to the people of the Charlottesville-Albemarle community.
This event is free and open to everyone in the Charlottesville/Albemarle community. Anyone with questions about aging issues is encouraged to attend. Visit http://www.cabaonline.org/ for more information.
Seating is limited; registration is required. To register, contact Kate Callender, kcallender@jabacares.org, 434.817.5222.
